forgotten gems

Greetings, Tastemakers-

The hubby and I forgot all about our anniversary (which is this evening), and we're searching for a hidden or forgotten NOLA gem. We want to eat, not merely taste, and we're willing to wait. It would be nice to dine in a romantic atmosphere, but we're willing to sacrifice some ambiance for good food.

Some establishments that come to mind are Orleans Grapevine, Coquette, Adolfo's and Cafe Giovanni. Commander's is always our default, go-to option (not that I'm complaining!), but we'd like to venture out of the box. So, no Galatoire's, Arnaud's, Vizard's, Stella, Grill Room, NOLA or August. You get the picture.

What are we forgetting that deserves our attention? Or, in your opinion, what does not?
Thanks!!

On the topic of forgotten gems, how is Lola's these days? I moved out of the city a decade ago and haven't made it out on Esplanade to have some paella since I left. Is that place still as good as it used to be?

I really loved Cafe Atchafalaya when we ate there in December.

Clancy's is one of NOLA's finest restaurants to celebrate an event. Le Foret is one of the most romantic restaurants in the city. Good luck.

            Might I suggest Meauxbar?
