Visting NYC from Toronto next week
Greetings: I'd really appreciate a few recommendations. I'm looking for a good place for lunch in the West Village/Chelsea area for one of my days. For the next day, I'm also looking for another good lunch spot up around the International Center for Photography. Later that same day, I'm meeting a friend for dinner at Bar Boulud, and I'd like to have a great bar to hang out in for a few hours before meeting up with my friend (rather than travelling back downtown where I'm staying and then heading up to midtown again). Does that make sense? Any advice much appreciated. As for the food, I'm open to just about anything -- authentic, "ethnic," something NYC -- all good. Not looking for super fancy, but something memorable would be lovely. Thanks!
A few quick questions:
What days of the week are you here? Weekday? Weekend?
What's the rough amount you'd like to spend before tax, tip, wine/drinks for lunch?
For your great bar, what do you like to drink? Wine? Beer? Cocktails?
Basically you want somewhere between ICP (44th and 6th) and Bar Boulud?
One problem may be timing--finding a place open after lunch and before dinner, especially if it a weekday.
Just off the top of my head, I'd do lunch at Minetta Tavern unless they're closed that day, otherwise I might do Spotted Pig or Pearl Oyster Bar. Near ICP is a little tougher, as it is in Midtown, and you'll be competing with office worker crowds on a weekday. Maybe Szechuan Gourmet, which is very close by.

Hi Kathryn .. thanks for the swift reply. The lunch in the West Village would be on Thursday, and I'll be up around 10 Ave & 22nd Street. The other day is Saturday. And, yes, somewhere between ICP and Bar Boulud. How much for lunch? Gee, not sure; does $30-40 sound reasonable? As for the bar, my customary pre-dinner drinking is a dry cava, so somewhere to sit and watch NY while slugging back two or three glasses of sparkling wine. But if the better experience is a neighborhood bar and a few pints of beer, I can easily do that too. Thanks!
