Desperately Seeking Birthday Venue Recommendations - With Activities
I need to put together a birthday get together for this Friday, for about 10 people with food and drink but it needs to center around an activity like bowling or some games, etc. Please help! Any suggestions would be extremely appreciated.

Bowlmor has locations in Union Square and Times Square. Both have David Burke food. The one in US recently opened the Greenwich Village Country Club with mini-golf and other games. Other bowling options are Lucky Strike on far West Side (West Side Highway) and Frames in the Port Authority. The PA has some fun divey bars nearby in Hells Kitchen as well (Rudy's, Port 41 (though I think this as rebranded).

Bowlmor has a mess of activities, and food & drink. Bonus: if you decide to have your party in Cupertino or Bethesda, you can still go to Bowlmor!

Perhaps, Bowlmor?

Well, at least a "consensus" of two. :) I've never been there (haven't bowled in ages), but when he mentioned bowling, it seemed a natural suggestion. I looked at the website, and it says David Burke is responsible for the food.

re: RGR
I've been to the University Place location, although not for (yikes) 15ish years. It definitely has a party atmosphere. It's deafeningly loud. I wouldn't count on the food being that good, though. I think David Burke will slap his name on anything - the Hawaiian Tropic Zone, or whatever that was, comes immediately to mind.

We had a very good meal at Burke's Fishtail. Several years ago, he bought the 40+-year-old upscale restaurant Fromagerie. (The owners, two brothers, were retiring.) It's located in Rumson, NJ. Burke grew up nearby and worked at the restaurant when he was a teenager. We hadn't been to Fromagerie in years, but after he took over, we had dinner there. The food, now contemporary American instead of French, was so-so.

re: RGR
I'm not maligning David Burke The Chef. I went to Fishtail for Lobster Louie Sunday in December and liked it quite a bit. I'm just saying he's a bit of a marketing whore, so his name on a restaurant doesn't mean the food's any good.
My parents used to go to Fromagerie every year for their anniversary (pre-Burke). I think it was the fanciest place within an hour drive of our house, at the time.

re: small h
Yes, Fromagerie was the fanciest restaurant in the area until Nicholas opened in Middletown in Dec. 2000.
