Portland, ME - Why do I like Pizza Joint pizza so much?
Anyone else love Pizza Joint? I grew up on it, so maybe that's why, but I recently tried it again for the first time in 20 years and it was just as good as I remember it. I really like their pies with extra crust and extra cheese plus pepperoni; the crust is moist and yeasty and together with the cheese makes it hearty, and the pepperoni is thick and curls up into little delightful cups of grease. It's also the best pizza to eat cold that I've ever had, since it doesn't dry up or get overly chewy or mushy.
It's weird because I'm usually kind of a pizza snob about pizza and will go on and on about why certain pizzas in NY and New Haven are better than others, and Pizza Joint doesn't seem to fit with my general criteria. But I still love it.
