Need help, please for a memorable evening in Manhattan
Need two recommendations, please: a neighborhood restaurant within five miles of midtown for a very foodie dinner on a Monday night. Would spend up to $200 for couple - food type can be anything, just so that its memorable. Thanks!

Jean Georges, The Modern, and Ai Fiori are good suggestions. Also consider:
Picholine - 4 courses for $95
Lincoln - 5 courses for $85
Marea - 4 courses for $97
La Grenouille - 3 courses for $98

re: DMG13
If you can go a little over budget, Jean Georges has availability for 2 on 2/13 at 8:15pm on OpenTable right now. The prix fixe there is $108pp but note that this does not include dessert. Ask to get one of the alcove tables so you can sit in a little semi-private nook, side by side.
The Modern also has availability for your date on OpenTable right now at 5:30pm or 9pm. Their four course prix fixe includes dessert and is $98pp.
I also see availability for Monkey Bar and Ai Fiori ($89 four course prix fixe). I've not been to either but they have gotten some good reviews here. Do a search either interests you.
There may be more options, but those are the ones that jumped out at me when searching OpenTable for 2 on 2/13 for 7pm in Midtown West and Midtown East.

re: Monica
Monica,
While you may not find La Silhouette's menu "too interesting," it is just the kind of cuisine that we adore. Our first dinner there so bowled us over with its deliciousness that it made my list of "Most Memorable Meals of 2011." And our second dinner there was not exactly too shabby either. The style of French cuisine is more traditional than The Modern Dining Room's, but imo, each in its own way is wonderful.
