Birthday dinner tonight at Babbo, rate my planned selections

This will be for both myself and my lovely bride.

Apps:

Marinated Fresh Sardines
Grilled Ocotpus

Primi:

Homemae Orecchette (or should I do the Chianti Stained Pap?)
Beef Cheek Ravioli

Secondi:
Spicy Two Minute Calamari

You pick my scond dish.

  1. I would swap out the sardines for the the lamb's tongue vinaigrette with three minute egg or crispy pig's foot. The pig's foot doesn't really look like a foot, in case you are squeamish. It's delicious, and totally worth it.

    For primi, I would swap out the beef cheek ravioli for the goose liver ravioli.

    For secondi, fennel-dusted sweetbreads? Rabbit? Lamb chops? Pork chop? Duck?

    I think calamari and octopus in the same meal might be too repetitive and I'd do something different for secondi.

    What about dessert? The seasonal crostata? Gelati? The semifreddo? If the Schiacciata D’Uva is still on the menu, it's great, and would be my pick (the online menu is from Nov 2011).

      Was just there two nights ago. No schiacciata, unfortunately. We had the pineapple crostata with rum zabaglione and ricotta salata that was out of this world. The fig and apple budino was just okay. There was a delicious sounding banana upside down cake and of course there is the oft raved about pistachio chocolate semifreddo. But get the crostata for sure!

        Yes to the goose liver ravioli.
        Yes to the Sweetbreads.
        Yes to the Porkchop (though note that big read thing isn't an apple but a BIG READ HOT pepper.)

        Consider also the Pumpkin Lune.

        Also, if Batali is doing something with an egg - order it.
