Anchovy Paste - Best Brands?

I know that salted anchovies are best, followed by packed in oil, then the paste but for those of us who like/want to keep a little back up on hand (paste) any thoughts on what's the best?

Thanks!

In SoCal where do you get the Amore? Whole Foods, specialty markets?

Ralphs. It's with the canned seafood, more or less adjacent to the bottled clam juice. I believe it's $3-something for a 1.58-oz. tube. I haven't looked for it at WF.

This post is for a product that is definitely not anchovy paste but you might try it. Red Boat Nuac Mam sauce. Sort of liquid anchovy, it is wonderful. In Manhattan you can get it at Kalustyan's and Eli's

I used Giovanni's when I lived in Nashville; the ubiquitous brand here in SoCal is Amore. They're both good. I think it's kinda hard to go wrong without going REALLY wrong, like adulterating it with ground earthworms or something. My only problem is that it's not really cheap and I use a lot of it; Mrs. O has gone veggie but she still loves braised broccolini with a good hit of anchovy, and it's the best way to bump a cheese sauce or gravy I know.

I have bought the Giovanni's brand for years and I have no complaints, but I can't recall any other brands of anchovy paste where I shop.
