Have You Seen this Queens List???

http://ny.eater.com/archives/2012/02/...

I take issue with the placement of half of these places and the ranking for all of them. Scary I've eaten at most of the places on the list and I feel this list is SHOCKINGLY inaccurate as a who's who of Queen's best.

just two korean places and one of them isn't Bang Ga Ne?

I see they include both Fu Run and its predecessor Waterfront International.

        Sigh...

Uvarara is on there twice w/2 different spellings. :)

And Monika's Cafe Bar?? The place has some of the most lackluster food and service I've found in Astoria -- definitely not a destination for food lovers coming from outside Queens, though it's not a bad place to sip a beer outside in the nice weather.

Maybe we should start our own list? :) My biggest problem is that it encompasses such a wide range of places, from higher end to take-out or food stall types. Perhaps it may have been more useful to have it broken down into more specific categories. There were some I highly agreed with, others I found to be less deserving, and a few that were downright puzzling (5 Burros? Really?). I'm glad that some lesser discussed places got mentioned (Wafa's, Arepas Cafe).

I've eaten at 5 Burros, the culinary quality equivalent of Olive Garden, so until Olive Garden becomes one of the top 50 Queens restaurants, just no. Same for Mama's Empanadas, etc. it's like some sort of bad joke where Kennedy Fried Chicken gets voted best restaurant in Queens.

The questionable entries make my head spin.

Taqueria Coatzingo is just not clean, Ive eaten their multiple times and sometimes the salsa smells like latex or cleaning supplies. Centerpoint is mediocre, Testaccio has the absolute worst Italian cheesecake I've had the misfortune of tasting. Joe's Shanghai, gloop, sugar, oil, yuck. La Boulangerie and not Cannelle? Taverna Kyclades is a joke, etc.

The pork-crab dumplings at JOE'S SHANGHAI are simply outstanding and NOT greasy at all.

I'm talking about everything other than their soup dumplings which are ok... their entrees are ham handed

Pookipichu- Please share with us the places you actually like or would highlight. The top 100 list for those less familiar with Queens is daunting (and clearly flawed). Help us!

The members of this board have done a fantastic job of highlighting the top Queens eateries. I don't think I could add anything that hasn't been mentioned before by others or myself.

There are some that perhaps deserve more recognition.

Salt and Fat doesn't get mentioned nearly enough, for instance. There are others that never get mentioned because they are not accessible by subway or are not Zagats rated like Cooking with Jazz or BKNY or Baidu.

There are some like Turkish Grill, that does better kebabs and has wonderful mezes that are not given the same level of distinction as a place like the wonderful Tanoreen or less wonderful Taverna Kyclades which has mediocre food and ambiance yet somehow is a destination restaurant.

I can list some of my personal favorites (in no order), whether they are the best of Queens is subject to debate.

                    Hunan House
                    Hunan Kitchen
                    Baidu
                    Nan Xiang
                    Jade Asian
                    Ganesh Temple Canteen
                    Spicy Tasty
                    San Sui
                    Tortilleria Nixtamal
                    Parkside
                    Leo's Latticini
                    Delhi Heights
                    Ihawan
                    Himalayan Yak
                    Pio Pio
                    Cannelle
                    Rincon Criollo
                    La Fusta
                    Taste Good
                    Donovans
                    Sripraphai
                    Ayada
                    Linn
                    Malagueta
                    John Brown's Smokehouse
                    Tournesol
                    LIC Market
                    Manducatis
                    Minetta's (for Italian pastries)
                    Alobar
                    Turkish Grill
                    Salt & Fat
                    M. Wells (yes they're closed but they're still making pies and cooking at PS1 and Manducatis Rustica every month or so. Their tourtiere and pecan pies are crazy)
                    Cooking With Jazz
                    BKNY
                    Zum Stammtisch

Well, I'm glad I'm not the only one who is completely unimpressed with 5 Burros. Nor am I impressed by that list...I agree about some of the places included, like Wafa's and Danny Brown, but out of 100, to leave off London Lennie's, Mickey's Place, Ping's, just to mention the first 3 to pop into my head, is ridiculous. I'm sure we are all coming up with plenty of places that belong there.
