JAPADOG! Great dogs, great price, great place.

Just paid our first visit to Japadog at St Mark's Place and I can say it won't be our last. Clean, fast, friendly as can be. Combo meals are a great deal, (dog, shake fries, and a drink) and I think it was like 8 bucks. I had the Terimayo - Teriyaki sauce, mayo and seaweed - (this is their signature dog so I thought it was appropriate for my first) and the Butter and Shoyu shake fries. GF had the same dog but it was a tofu version and she had the Wasabi fries. This is going to be our place to grab a cheap quick bite when in that part of the city (wish they could serve beer though).

I really like this place. I agree the service is quick and friendly. The Terimayo Dog is their #1 seller. I tried it and it was excellent. It Cost $4.81 and it is on a really good roll , much like a Vietnamese sandwich roll. My second order was a pork sausage , Kurobota,it was topped with bonito flakes and two sauces. This one is about 50% larger than the Terimayo. I didn't have room for fries, but I did take some of the complimentary gherkin pickles in the jar on the counter. This is a really good place for a big variety of hotdogs. They started with a hot dog cart in Vancouver, according to their story written on the wall. And amazingly , it was not crowded.

i have to share my 2 cents. i was pretty disappointed...especially considering the hype. my fault was that i happened to order the pork tonkatsu dog...with no hot dog...i assumed they all had hot dogs inside.

the pork cutlet was tough and chewy...and the breading came right off. the bun was of decent quality but coated in mayo and condiments, it all tasted like a big mess.

i may come back to try something else but this is far from a destination...and far from a regular spot for me.

Try the Terimayo dog, I had one today. It is a real hot dog but they make it taste really good
