Downtown - food & drink, easy to come & go for group?

  • 4

A friend is visiting from overseas and looking for a place that all walks of his life can come for a bite or drink to spend time together. Know of a place that wouldn't mind a flow of people in & out at different times? preferably somewhere that serves food and drink & is low key, ideally downtown. The only thing I could think of thus far is Jadis.
Thanks for your help!

  1. I can think of plenty of places - basically anywhere quiet-ish with a bar area. Can you be more specific about what you're looking for? Price range? Approximate number of people? Type of food? Preferred area of downtown? Weekday or weekend?

I was hoping for something on the lower end of the price range, I really like pulqueria but am concerned it's a bit pricey. I expect anywhere from 6 to 25 people and type of food is completely open -- this would be for tomorrow night.
      Thank you!

Pulqueria's food doesn't look pricey to me - do you mean their drinks are too expensive? Here are some suggestions with cheaper drinks.

I recently went to this place - http://loubligourmetbar.com/ - which was very peaceful on a weeknight. The food wasn't spectacular, but it was fine, and cheap. Taqueria on Orchard is cheaper than Pulqueria, but 25 people at once would overwhelm them completely. And I can't remember whether they serve hard liquor or just beer & wine. The Ten Bells has plenty of inexpensive small plates and definitely serves only beer & wine. Verlaine's happy hour (certain drinks are $5) goes 'til 10pm; their food is pretty good.
