Hawkins cheezies ...any sightings in T.O?
Just heard a piece on CBC about Hawkins cheezies. It brought back great memories of this awesome snack!! Haven't seen them in decades - thought they went out of business. But hallelujah! They are alive and well and making lots of the little lovelies....
So: anyone seen a store that stocks the red and white striped bags? Maybe it is only an east coast thing :( May need to do a road trip to Belleville!!
I grew up in BC where Cheezies were common and until about 2-3 years ago, they were pretty much impossible to find in Toronto. I always bought a bag out of the vending machine on the A concourse at Vancouver airport when transiting on my way home for the holidays and then on my way back. That vending machine isn't there anymore, so it's a good thing you can get Cheezies here in Toronto now.
You can find them most often near Halloween, when they show up in packs of bags meant for trick-or-treaters, but they are around in most the major chip/dip aisles. The thing I've noticed however, is that they aren't around consistently -- they might be there for a few weeks and then disappear for a month or two, and then come back.
So, you should be able to find them in whatever random grocery store you shop at -- but maybe not today. Maybe next week or next month or whatever.
Shoppers Drug Mart is the most consistent source of them that I've seen, but even there they come and go.
I am originally from out West and grew up with Hawkins Cheezies. The Shoppers Drug Mart at Yorkdale always have them. I think the Avenue Road/Lawrence store normally carries them. Other than SDM they are difficult to find. They are delicious-just don't read the package to see the calories or you will faint!
