Contemporary dim sum in YYC

Wondering if anyone can help with this...

Is there anywhere in Calgary that serves dim sum along the lines of Lai Wah Heen or Crown Princess in Toronto? Basically, I am looking for a modern take on the typical dim sum fare.

  1. Hard to compare as I've never had dim sum in Toronto but T-Pot has some dishes that are far from traditional. My daughter was particularly fond of a mango shrimp spring roll. They have specials as well as the regular menu.

    1. I'm not aware of anything like Lai Wah Heen in Calgary yet, but T-Pot, like sharonanne said, is probably closest that I've seen. It is a little more expensive that some of the other places for dim sum as well.

Central Grand can occasionally have some unique items as well on their carts. Their dahn tart is excellent as well.

Thanks for the suggestions! I haven't been to T-Pot but I will definitely check it out.

Forbidden City is pretty good as well. As has been mentioned, I don't think that Calgary has any dim sum comparable to Lai Wah Heen.

      2. In an odd twist on this topic I was doing some research on the Toronto board for an upcoming trip and a number of people say that Lai Wah Heen is expensive and bland.

Also, Ginger Beef has opened a new place called Ginger Beef Bistro Cafe. They lose points for the name but I haven't been there. Iit might be more along the lines of what you are seeking.
