There's a foodie crawl through Tai Hang this coming Sunday (see link below). It's full but you could:
- go on the waiting list; or
- somehow try to muscle your way into it; or
- look at their itinerary and do your own crawl (maybe other ch'ers will join you)›1 Reply -
You happened to pick an area that is kind of a culinary wasteland!! However, don't be disparaged, there are still a few worthwhile places around. For quality Cantonese food there's Kin's Kitchen on Tsing Fung Street, Tin Hau. This relatively small and cozy place is a Michelin 1* and is pretty good value. However, my favourites are two hole-in-the-wall noodle places Sister Wah, on Electric Road for Beef Brisket noodle. This is a Hong Kong institution, well known amongst foodies. Also an openrice.com award winner. Another place, also on Electric road is Mak Sui Kee Traditional Won-Ton Noodles!
If you want more choices, I would head a little west to Causeway Bay where you will find a whole group of great establishments like Fu Sing (Cantonese), Fan Tang(Cantonese), Din Tai Fung (Shanghainese), Pak Lok (Chui Chow)....etc.
Try doing some research yourself by visiting www.openrice.com›3 Replies-
re: Charles Yu
Hi Charles,
We have already booked a table at Fu Sing (an old favorite) and planning to check-out Sister wah too. Have been doing DTF for years in other places (Beijing etc) too. Just trying to look for something new to check-out. Is the Chairman still a must try? Just secured a table but, openrice giving it mixed reviews.
Thanks!

re: ChowhoundManila
We had a chowmeet of over 10 chowhounders at the Chairman a couple of years ago. Enjoyed the food immensely! Service could be erratic though!
Fan Tan in Causeway Bay is very similar in style but ambiance is much better!
For something new, give the new Michelin1* 'Yue' a try. Its inside the City Garden Hotel close to Tin Hau. Fellow chowhounder skylineR33 just tried it out a few days ago and thought the food was great! Tin Lung Heen on the 103rd floor of the ICC building was also visited by skylineR33. Thought the dim-sum was better than the 3* Lung King Heen at the Foursason! Book early though!!!
