Best soups?

albanis Feb 3, 2012 08:06 AM

I am looking for some recommendations on really good soups, the spicier, the better. Pho, laksa, hand-pulled noodles, ramen, anything along those lines. I like a good broth and nothing too pricey.

Tank Noodle and Pho 888 on Argyle are my favorites. Pho 888 is smaller and a bit less expensive, but both are going to be in the $10-15 range for the whole meal (including tip).

The Jalisco region of Mexico is known for a wonderful soup called carne en su jugo. Here are a couple of Chicago restaurants that do it particularly well:
Birrieria de la Torre, 6724 S. Pulaski
      Taqueria Los Gallos #2, 4252 S. Archer

Many may laugh, but I have had the best soups anywhere I've tried while in the City at...wait for it...the Blue Frog. I know, I know, believe me, but I've had 3 different attempts at trying to not like them, and all 3 I have had were perfect!

Thanks everyone! Might actually try them all...

The "Spicy Clam Chiu Chow Style" soup is pretty nice at "Chi Cafe" in China Town.
