Some of the Market Basket stores carry Alden Merrell. They use to have a bakery in Brookline, but unfortunately, Market Basket is the only place to get it now. Not all Market Baskets carry it though.

re: catsmeow
my local market basket (somerville) doesn't have an in-store bakery, so i when i had a chance to visit a larger mb, alden merrell carrot cake was at the top of my last.
sad to report, the quality has deteriorated considerably since i had it last at the am brookline story (there was also one in newton center). maybe my memory was playing tricks, but the cake itself was dry, and the frosting too sugary.

Rosie's Bakery is known for theirs. I can't tell your taste but it's a foundation of their business. They have some sort of location in S. Station and of course in Chestnut Hill.

re: lergnom
I really like Rosie's carrot cakes - they are VERY popular, so worth a try for comparison's sake, at least.

You might want to check in Trader Joe's. They have had carrot cakes in the past.
They are usually with the frozen cheese cakes and other desserts. Cake has cream cheese
frosting and the price is quite reasonable. Even though not a bakery or restaurant
it's a really great product. -
