I visited Paris last month and had the most delectable meal at a restaurant on the Champs Elysee. It was a trio of fishes, haddock, salmon and one other fish that I had never tried before served on a bed of sauerkraut (yes, sauerkraut!). It was so delicious! Can anyone recommend a restaurant in the southland that serves French food that is geared more towards providing an authentic, French gastronomical experience rather than a fancy French dining experience?

It sure sounds as if the French region is Alsace that the food concept is derived from, even though fish alongside the German border might be a stretch.
chezmimirestaurant.com for Chez Mimi in Santa Monica and Laurent Quenioux's Bistro K in So. Pasadena - lqmanagementservices.com would be at least 2 starting places though.

I've had very good dining experiences at:

Pastis (which we thought to be better - and more economical - than Mimosa) - Beverly Blvd. in WeHo

Monsieur Marcel (Farmer's Market in a little corner - more of a sidewalk bistro than gourmet fare but with quite excellent food)

Cafe de la Plage (Venice, very close to the beach - not amazing, but very good and very inexpensive)

Bon appetit!
