James Beard Foundation Baker's Dozen list

I had never heard of this until I was waylaid into buying the new edition of the Carol Field "Italian Baker" just now (waylayer, you know who you are)! http://www.jamesbeard.org/files/Essen... Quite interesting. I need the Walter and the Braker...and I'm SO GLAD Marion Cunningham is on this list, I adore that book.

Nice list--thanks for posting that. I'm surprised that My Bread made the list given that it's as simple as it is. It's a great book, don't get me wrong, but so basic in every recipe, mix, rest, fold, rest, bake. What do you (who have seen it) think of Italian Baker? That might be the next book I buy.

The Italian Baker is wonderful. Supposedly, this new edition is updated somehow, but we'll have to find out from Buttertart how it differs frm the original.

Thanks--I've been looking around at it and saw the two versions and wondered which one to get. I don't know how I've missed that one. I have or have read all the other books on the list but never even heard of this one.

The Pane Pugliese is fabulous, as is the recipe for rosemary bread, which I've adapted to make rolls, and have made them for every New Year's Day open house for a dozen or more years. Every recipe I've tried from there has been fantastic.

Sounds great and I just saw the other thread about Italian bread books. That's what I get for skimming threads with my phone. I miss some good stuff. I can't wait to try it.

The only one I don't seem to have is Great Pies and Tarts by Carole Walter. They're all great books!!

Great list.. pleased to see I have (or have read) most of these, except the bread-specific one. Will have to hunt down the Fannie Farmer Baking book...
