Gourmet's La Brea Tar Pit Chicken Wings

In order to comply with a dinner-party theme, I'd like to sprinkle some chopped roasted peanuts over my la brea tar pit chicken wings. Do you think this combo sounds compatible?

I've done similar wings, and found brown sugar is better than white. You get a more caramelly flavor. If you live near a Costco, they have wasabi roasted peanuts. If you lived near me, I'd give them to you since I'm not crazy about eating them plain but I think they'd be good on your wings.

Sometimes I add a pinch of 5-spice to give if a more Asian flavor. The peanuts on those would probably be pretty good.

Ooh, I like the 5 spice idea, too!

I think this loks interesting. Adding peanuts would be interested. Add maybe a SE Asian style?

Any ideas on subbing out the red wine?

Well, I think this recipe is a favorite of many chowhounds the way it is, so I don't know if I'd want to mess with it (aside from addressing my peanut/theme issue), but I often substitute red wine in recipes when I don't have ShaoXing wine. Maybe it works the other way, too?
