Looking for anything of high quality and interest walking distance from the Hilton at Paddington Station. Something comfortable for a solo diner this Friday night, before heading home to the States first thing Sturday morning.

Pearl Liang is nearby for good quality Chinese.

Thanks. I did see that thread, but was hoping for something a bit more upscale, since I only have to feed 1!

Paddington is not a very upscale area, I'm afraid.
But if you are willing to walk as far as Notting Hill there are some more upscale options (or perhaps splurge on a cab). I like Bumpkin and the Ledbury around there. I've never eaten there, but would be interested to hear if anyone else liked the Notting Hill Brasserie

Heck, get in a cab and ride a short distance to Notting Hill or maybe Launceston Place will have a seat for one.

Probably good advice. So, if I can it somewhere local, what would you suggest?

Well, I really like the food at Launceston Place - might be too late for a seat there but worth a try. I live south of London so I'm not as savvy as some others here. There are quite a few places near the Gloucester Tube station. Someone recently mentioned Bombay Brasserie and also this place... http://chowhound.chow.com/topics/828467.

I'd also go along with PhilD's suggestion of Hereford Rd - a very popular spot.

"Hereford Road" is good and a short walk away.

        2. If you don't mind walking a bit I always say it is worth going west up to Bayswater. The Taqueria does good Mexican, but is a bit pricey. Al Waha does good Middle Eastern and I like Khan's, but the Indian lovers here probably don't agree with me on that one.

          1. try the Lebdury in Notting Hill, great food, 30 minute walk / 5 minute cab from Paddington

              Thanks to all.

            2. There is a place called Angelus which always looks excellent -- its in Paddington bordering Hyde Park. Its on a cute side road and looks like the kind of place that would be enjoyable alone.
