On a Mac, OSX 10.6.8 running Safari and Firefox, the reply buttons to threads don't work. The reply links instead say "Go to # on this page."

The behavior you're describing indicates that the Javascript is not running for you. Do you have Javascript disabled in those browsers? The fact that it's failing in both seems odd.

Thanks for the java tip... I was able to solve it by reinstalling Safari and running Disk Utility's "repair permissions"

It stopped working again an hour or so after my last reply. I reinstalled Java, upgraded to Lion, and still no difference in Safari and Firefox. Everything works fine in Chrome though.

Javascript and Java are actually separate entities, apologies for the confusion. I'm not sure why running the disk utility worked last time; but perhaps re-installing Safari reset that browser's Javascript settings. Was anything altered between reinstallation and the return of the problem?

Crazy. I finally found this solution:

            "Try changing your DNS:
            System Preferences> Network> Advanced> DNS
Under DNS Servers click the + and add these two separately:
            8.8.8.8
            8.8.4.4
            "

I'm a bit baffled as to why the DNS was causing the issue, but if that fixed it then all the better. Sorry we weren't more help.

It broke again, but I figured out the problem. I use a proxy server to connect to my work. For some reason, when the proxy server is on, javascript barfs. When I toggle it off, I can use Chowhound without a problem. I'll contact our sysadmin.
