Italian recommendations for central London

I need to cheer up my neice from Cardiff, who's unemployed and suffering from recession blues, and I want to take her out to a restaurant in town - probably Italian. Italian always cheers you up, but I haven't been to any in town for ages (I'm well catered for here in Balham, mainly). Does anyone have any up-to-date recommendations? I think mid-range in price, but I don't mind pushing the boat out a bit. Non-Italian recommendations welcome too.

  1. My Italian friends took me to Osteria dell'Arancio on Kings rd. If the Italians eat it, it must be good I say.

    1. We had a decent meal at Mennula on Charlotte St. Many people love it, but maybe we hit an off night. I'd give it about a 6 out of 10, but it was mid-range in price. There are also the Caldesi places off of Marylebone High St.

      1. Thanks for the advice zuriga and malino; I'll try to get to these places.

In the event we went to Santore, which has been referenced periodically on these threads. Very good pizza, friendly and crisp service, good wine too. We ought to get out of South London more often.

        1. Bocca di Lupo - it's great but have a look at the prices there before you go - I don't think they qualify for the mid range section but they are great
