caldo verde

Any recommendations for a good version anywhere in TO? Chiado doesn't keep it on the menu as a regular item, and I miss the version that the now-defunct Sintra used to serve.
Thanks for any suggestions.

I've had it a few times at Bairrada Churrasqueira on St. Clair Avenue West and it wasn't too bad. You might want to look into making it yourself as it's quite easy.

The hardest thing about making your own is de-ribbing the kale or collards and slicing the remaining leaves very thinly. In Brazil, they have a device right in the market stalls where they slice your greens for you, perfect for caldo verde.

I already do make it fairly often, I just like trying other variations, and I don't have a good source for Portuguese chouriço or linguiça where I live, so I usually make a version with hot Italian sausage or Mexican chorizo instead, which changes the flavour profile considerably.

Thanks for mentioning Bairrada. I wasn't that impressed with their calamari or chicken, but it might be worth another visit.

Thanks for sharing Prima. I enjoyed the chicken @ BC but was not at all impressed with the pork sandwich I had on another occasion. Definitely interested in visiting Amadeus. :)

Amadeus in Kensington has it all the time. Good, too.

Thanks, iMarilyn. Maybe I'll finally get around to trying Amadeus this winter.

Has anyone tried the caldo verde at Perla? Perla rarely seems to get mentioned on the Board, but is mentioned here:
