Tried a new vietnamese place
It's on the south east corner of st-michel and Cremazie in the same lot as the shady marché aux puce place. I was going to the other one accross the street but it was packed for lunch, So I decided to head East and that's when I noticed Pho Nam for the first time even if they have been open for a year.
Initially I was going to have a "Pho" (soup) but decided to go for grilled pork with noodles. Place wasn't busy for lunch maybe since it's awkwardly placed on the street and when you notice it it's to late to enter the parking lot.
Also I most say that their price are higher than the other places in the area. So here comes my dish and nothing spectacular expected, I was just hungry. As I take my first bite of pork it was actually good but seemed kind of not marinated enough but still good.
Then I had a bite of the noodles and I went WTF!!! they were so good and velvety in texture like I never ever had in any other Vietnamese restaurant. So I asked the waitress if they made their own noodles and she told me no they don't. So I asked what kind of noodle is it and why is the texture so smooth and velvety. She said that noodle are dipped in hot boilling water for a few seconds before served. I was surprised. Usually you always get the tasteless noodles that are sticky. I asked if the put oil also and she said no. That made my day that such a simple practice would transform the noodles like this. All restaurants should do that!

maybe you were just exceptionally hungry
the filthy vietnamese place beside metro outremont recently renovated/cleaned up. it is brighter and clean looking for now - I can't imagine it staying that way. anyways, i've come to really like their crispy noodles with vegetables and chicken. the sauce is gingery comfort food with major wok hai. the soup has a light and aromatic broth - and is full of vegetables whether you order meat or vegetarian. I have a bit of a soft spot for this place - glad it is in the neighbourhood. however, the owner absolutely stinks.
