Armenian Jam with pits

I bought a jar of sour cherry preserves from my local Armenian deli. Its delicious! But the cherries still have the stones/pits in them.

So I can't spread it on bread. Anybody know what the intended way to use this is? Its so good that I've been eating it with a spoon and spitting out the pits.

  1. My grandmother used to make the most wonderful plum jam, and would leave the pits in. They were small plums so the pits were smaller than usual. We would spread it on toast and either pull the pits on, or leave them and spit them out later.
