Delicious organic bread made in baltimore and the surrounding area?

interplanetjanet Jan 26, 2012 03:57 PM

As a Detroit transplant I am spoiled by the likes of Avalon International Breads and Zingerman's Bake House which produce delicious bread made with honest ingredients. I am at a loss for this in Baltimore; any leads?

I hear you - I came from Detroit, too, and there is a lot that I miss about that area's food.

Third vote for Atwater's. If you visit the one at Belvedere Square, you can stop at Neopol, as well. Always worth it.

Since you're from Detroit, I have to ask; Is your handle a reference to the scrummage band "Benny Stoofy".

Second Atwater's. I believe it is indeed organic, and their whole wheat sourdough and struan are both very, very good.

can't believe no one has mentioned Bonaparte Breads. Here's the basic link, but the bread is available all over town http://www.yelp.com/biz/bonaparte-bre...

Both the Hamilton Bakery and Atwaters produce excellent breads.

I was just informed that Brunie's Bakery and Stone Mill Bakery both have organic--even vegan breads. Even Safeway has an organic section, but don't know if that includes bakery type items. Good luck. I'm sure you will be able to find something to fulfill your request. FoiGras

Brunie's Bakery is great - if you can get in touch with them. A couple of years ago she did my birthday cake and it was terrific but now every time I try to contact her through the email listed on her website, I get a "no user found" response. I'd like to give her business, but it's frustrating not to be able to get in touch.

You may want to try Atwater's in Catonsville and Belvedere square. they have luscious olive bread--my favorite. Can't confirm that the breads are organic, though. I've also gotten very good breads at Harris Teeter and Wegman's--but, once again, can't qualify the organic aspect. You may also want to try Whole Foods and Eddie's. I'm sure that there are plenty of resources for organic breads. FoiGras
