99 has them, in at least 3 places:
- in the rack of Korean items by the produce entrance
- in a cooler at the opposite end of the store, near the deli (next to the Japanese Castle cake)
- a sealed, shelf stable version on sale near the cookies. CostPlusWorldMarket also has this brand (from Taiwan?) -
There's a relatively new place on Jackson you might try. They were "coming soon" for a very long time but are now open:
Umai Do Japanese Sweets

re: Jeri L
Umai Do has excellent Japanese sweets and the mochigashi is much better than the package stuff you can find in most stores. I don't remember seeing the mochi rice cakes [assuming the op is talking about the type you eat at new year].
But if you do end up at Uwajimaya for mochi Umai Do would be a worthy side trip and right near NW Tofu which is a nice stop for fresh tofu.
I'm pretty sure mochi is at Central Market. If not frozen at least I have seen the packaged type that is in squares.

re: acgold7
all, THANK YOU!
i found some at the old Paldo World which is now KS-Mart on Hey 99, in Lynnwood.
i'll check out Central Market in mill creek next time i'm in the neighborhood.
and yes, it is the new year's mochi. i suddenly developed a hankering for fire-roasted puffy mochi cakes, wrapped in nori.
yum.
