For those who hate TVs in restaurants...
I had an experience that changed my thinking. Last Saturday, we ate at VIva in Wayland (my son's favorite Mexican restaurant). The restaurant was crowded, so we were offered a table in the bar. I nearly laughed out loud when I saw that one of the four TVs was playing a "Downton Abbey" rerun from the previous week instead of sports. And that end of the bar was where all the women and girls were sitting.
So it occurred to me that what I really hate isn't the TVs so much as sports on TV. If more bars/restaurants were willing to dedicate one of their TVs to chick-friendly fare (with closed captioning), I might not object!
we celebrate our wedding anniversary by going out to eat while the super bowl is on. the key to a quiet meal is a restaurant with no television ( or at least on that is not prevalent). green tea in newton, stellina's in watertown square, sichuan gourmet in framingham. i find little more annoying than televisions while i am eating. why not just cook at home?
I am with you on this. I recently ate at a bar where 3 of the 4 TV's were playing sports and one had Bourdain's No Reservations on. That was nice. Another really annoying thing they do is when there aren't actual games on, they put those sports talking heads shows on with no closed captioning -- what's the point of that? Is the food at Viva any good, btw?
