2012 - Mardi Gras

This post is early. Fat Tuesday is Feb 21st.

However, I'm hoping people will use it as a place to report any Mardi Gras events at restaurants or businesses selling baked goods.

D'oh--- had I been paying attention to this thread ahead of time, I would have taken a picture! I just happened to have spotted it while buying some other stuff. They seemed smaller than the King cakes I've eaten in the past, and wasn't as festively decorated as the one Melanie Wong posted above.

arizmendi selling king cake on the 21st. however, dont just pop in and assume they have some. did that last year in their emeryville location and left with nothing in hand because they were baking them at a later time in the day.

Here's a photo of the King cake that Dominique's Sweets had for sale on Saturday at the Santa Rosa Farmers Market. Didn't buy it, but it was $20 and HUGE. It sells at farmers markets and by special order, no retail store front.

Easy Creole in SF didn't know what it would be doing for Mardi Gras when I was there last month. But the owner said they'd do something and he had all the beads ready.

Miss Pearl's is re-opening on Fat Tuesday, dropping "Jam House" from the moniker.

No menu posted online, only mention of "Live music, Hurricanes, Gumbo and Beads, Beads, Beads."

Angeline's king cake might be good. The pecan pie there is the only one I've ever had in a restaurant that is as good as homemade. Everything else I've had there has been good as well.

check out Fillmore St. in SF around Yoshi's on Fat Tuesday. Last year there were several clubs with music, folks parading up and down the street, and bands playing in the street amphitheater. It was pretty festive and fun. I plan on checking it out again this year. . .

Town Hall hosts a Fat Tues celebration on 02/21/12. $60 adv gets you into an all you can eat affair with music + a couple of drink tickets as I recall. Food is quite good, especially if you hover at the pickup window. http://townhallsf.com/flash/Mardi%20G...
