  1. Oh my gosh - I have not thought of that pie in AGES. We used to get it (when I lived in the midwest) at Bakers Square. I think you can get it at Marie Callenders out here.

I used to get it at the Bakers Square in Lake Forest, CA. Now, it's a Denny's. :>(

        So nowhere in these parts???

If you happened to have any other recs that would be great.

I think there's a Baker's Square in Oxnard, no clue if it's still there.

But I was also looking more towards a non-chain joint.

    2. Marie Callendar's makes a good one with an Oreo crust! I guess I don't care that it's a chain, as long as it's yummy.

I'm guessing you could call MC and request a French Silk Pie with a regular crust, not oreo.

And then all would be right with the world!

      2. Coles downtown...they call it chocolate cream pie, but believe me, it is bitter sweet, oreo crust, and blows MC's version out of the water

Oh, yeah, I tried the Cole's choc cream pie, but was not impressed at all, the whipped cream was not good, and the chocolate filling was barely ok. in fact, there sandwiches aren't even as good as phillipe's but the plus here is that...

since the changeover, they sure make a great batch of classic cocktails. and that's really where it's at at this joint.

Kevin , You are right on point with that statement! Very good bartenders with boring food.

        2. When I baked tarts as a hobby, selling them to shops and restaurants, Peter Dennis, a shop at the time on Larchmont, bought them continually from me, Often he special order a chocolate French silk for actor Joseph Cotton and his wife, Patricia Medina, who served them to Greta Garbo.

Coral Browne bought one as a birthday surprise for Vincent Price, her husband.

My pate brisee crust was as thin as I could roll it.
