Mello Mushroom Pizza, Downtown

All, I was just on a business trip to Atlanta, right downtown at Peachtree Center. Unfortunately, lack of time to get out much, and not having a rental car severely limited my ability to nail down some of the better food I've read about on Chow, but I did happen upon Mello Mushroom Pizza just a bit east of the Peachtree Center.

That was one very, very good pizza. I ordered a small "special," which is the house special with pepperoni, sausage, mushrooms, bell peppers, onions, etc. I asked for it well done and it was perfectly done - super crisp. It's not a Neopolitan style pizza, but I would place the crust somewhere between that of a Neopolitan and a classic New York style thin crust. It rocks.

On the way back to my hotel some homeless guy on the street commented that it "smells good." I gave him a piece and I took one and we stood on the street and ate and both swooned.

        you could try French American Brasserie (FAB) next time --its maybe a block away, and a decent foodie spot

          FAB shut down before the holidays.

          Oh, I should point out that I walked over to Gladys Knight's Chicken and Waffles and had their smothered chicken with collard greens and lima beans. That was a very good meal. I took some wings back to the hotel with me, and they too were very good. Perfectly cooked in terms of crispyness and tenderness. My only criticism is that the seasoning was monotone. I didn't taste much more than plain ol' salt. Very good all around though, and excellent service.
