No. VI Chop House [DTW]
The bride & I enjoyed a nice dinner at No. VI this past Friday night.
We arrived ~25 mins ahead of our scheduled resv and were seated
immediately. At 6PM we were the 5th table. I hope it was the bad
weather that was keeping people away.
The waiter was both prompt and knowledgeable. The pour of the
drinks was generous, but not overly so.
The lobster bisque was very good - reminiscent of Bernardi's (RIP).
We both order the filet & scallop special. The steaks were excellent
cuts, nicely seasoned and prepared precisely as ordered. The scallops
were very good. One of mine was substantially thinner than the other.
I wonder if it had been trimmed ... and why. It was all served on a bed
of mashed potato with a few (3) asparagus spears.
Had I known the beef would arrive on a bed of mashed, we wouldn't
have ordered a baked potato - very large - easily serves two - or more.
We also ordered a side of sauteed mushrooms. Again; very good and
another huge serving.
We passed on dessert and coffee. Nothing to report.
The only service problem occurred when the check was delivered. It
was a medley of two tables' checks. $60 of wine we didn't order or drink.
Four appetizers that we didn't order or eat. No entrees or side dishes
ours or others. It took the waiter ~10 minutes to sort-out the mess. He
was appropriately apologetic ... and the check was correct the upon the
2nd try. I did not garnish his tip for the snafu.
We left ~7:30-ish. Maybe 10-12 tables were occupied. That ain't good.
I'm hoping the wx was responsible ... otherwise; I don't see how this
operation can survive.
Vaguely related ... the salad arrives with dressing on the side, in a
garnish cup. A nearby table asked for more dressing. Another
garnish cup arrived ... and they immediately said, "more, please."
When their steak arrived, they asked for ketchup. The waiter didn't
flinch. A garnish cup of ketchup arrived promptly. Yup, you guessed
it, "more, please." Sigh ...
