I have been meaning to get to Elia's since it opened and was going to order takeout, but I noticed on their menu that the gyros are only beef and chicken. No lamb?

There are plenty of lamb dishes on the menu, I'm sure you can get one as a gyro.

jhopp217, try the moussaka I think you will love it. I ordinarily hate moussaka in restaurants, however Elia's version is unbelievably good. I included a photo of the beets too, just because It is my favorite dish in Westchester County hands down.

Chowdom...this is exactly what I am getting when I go. I know it won't be as good as my mother used to make (and no she wasn't Greek), but I am dying for a decent moussaka. Was talking about it two days ago!

Westchester has observed quite a renaissance in Greek restaurants these past few years (presumably to offset the precipitous decline in diner quality). From what I can tell, popular opinion currently ranks them as:

        Elia Taverna
        Santorini
        Lefteris
Mythos (new, so not as well known yet)
        Niko's
Nemea (new, so not as well known yet)

From among these (haven't tried Mythos), all decent, I am partial to Elia. Well balanced sandwich.

My husband and I are huge fans of Elia Taverna. Never had a bad meal there. But fwiw, if you are looking for a gyro sandwich for dinner, it says this on the menu:

"Have your platter regular or sandwich style
Sandwiches not availaable for dine-in after 5:00pm Friday and Saturdays"

And availaable is their spelling...not mine!
