Fresh corn tortillas in or near PIoneer Valley?

fatheryod Jan 21, 2012 07:15 AM

Long ago I could get 'em at Mi Tierra in Hadley. I seem to recall there were some other sources, however. Perhaps in Holyoke? Willing to drive a way if they're good. Any tips appreciated.

They used to sell them at Veracruzana, but not sure if they still do.

I wonder if they would have them at the new Latin Grocery that is on Rte. 9 Hadley. It's in the plaza just over the bridge that had(has?) a Christmas themed shop. I haven't stopped in yet, but wouldn't that be great if they carried fresh tortillas?

I'd love to know that also. Just a fyi, visited Mi Tierra Thursday (first time in about a year) and was a little disappointed for the first time. Prices rose - from 4.99 to 6.50 for spicy pork tacos, but the filling was scarce in each, the tortillas tasted not so fresh, and the meat was gristly.

Wouldn't mind the $$ increase if the food was great as always....

We were there about a week ago and thought that it was as good as ever. Yes, the prices went up, but the fillings on the spicy pork (spacey pork on the menu) and the carne asada tacos were plentiful. Maybe your friend just got a bad batch, which is unfortunate.
I also tried the chiles rellenos recently and didn't really like it. the flavor was great, it might just be a texture thing with me.
Also enjoy the enchiladas with the spicy green sauce. Huge portion for $8.95 (i think) and the sauce is so fresh and tangy.

haven't seen the special menu but the things I like best there are any whole fish prep, the homestyle dumplings and stuffed eggplant.

the latin grocery in the christmas tree mall in hadley does not have fresh corn tortillas, but they do have a good deal on packaged ones -- 30 for $1.99. they also have an interestin selection of mexican/ecaudorian spices, cooking stuff and various sundries (CDs, boots, blood tonics, etc.. they also make food there -- small counter, mostly done for take-out -- and the pork tacos were quite solid. only thing i tried, but the meat was tasty, the green salsa was different and interesting, and the pickle radishes were a great compliment.

                  i'll try la veracruzana next.

Thanks, I'll check it out. It sound like fun,
If you like tamales, they are very good ( at least to my uneducated palate) at La Veracruzana and come in several varieties and also frozen to take home.

That's strange! The rise in prices seemed inconsequential to me as the food has been spectacular as always, even during busy times. I go there and get two large soda cups full of that salsa so I can get my fix throughout the week. Love those spicy pork tacos!
