Friday Lunch at Sidecar

  • 4

My wife and I indulged in a rare luxury and went out for a lazy, lengthy lunch on Friday, both of us having the day free. We decided on Sidecar, a place we had been a few times before and rather liked. For us, it was off the beaten path, which is why we chose it.

Turns out that they offer half price beer, wine by the glass and oysters on Friday afternoons, the only weekday that they open before 5 PM. Thus we were able to try a dozen Effingham oysters (west coast Canadian variety) for only $18, with similar discounts on our beer and wine consumption.

Thoroughly enjoyable lazy repast at really good prices, for those who are interested...

  1. That sounds good. What did you think of those Fngham oysters, Bboy? Creamy? Assertive?

They were surprisingly good, at least to me. Not creamy, but sharp and briny, tasting fresh, clean and of the sea, and Maureen loved them, as did I. We'll be going back for more at some point. The only minor (very minor) negative was that the oyster shucker could learn a lesson from the guy at Blue Ribbon, as there were a couple of small shell fragments in a couple of the oysters. All in all, a worthwhile Friday afternoon experience...

Hope the new year is treating you well...

Yeah, a pet peeve (among so many, in my case) is bits of shell. My last splurge was at Aquagrill and they were pristine, but hardly as attractively priced, so you've given me something to think about.

Hope the same and look forward to catching up with you both.

    2. I didn't know Sidecar was open for any weekday lunches, so thanks for the info.
