For Ruth Chris -- does that mean we have to get outta there by 6:30, or just sit down by 6:30..?

      1. re: jennjen18

the menu is not offered after 6:30 as it is considered a pre-theatre menu for the 4 seasons across the street....orders to the kitchen by 6:30

    2. Sidecar has $25 for 3 courses, I think from Sunday to Wednesday.

Actually it's $120 and $10 more for the optional whipped cheese course, but what's $20 if you are eating there anyway.

And I see they removed the option of "crispy Veal Brain" instead of the saddle of rabbit. :-(

            1. re: foodyDudey

Crispy Veal Brain is still available on request - comes with a side of pigs ears (which are fantastic!).

          2. Tati, $25 for 3 courses, Sun-Thu http://www.tatibistro.com/home.html

Tati's prix fixe is terrific. If you're not as big an eater as a 3 course dinner would merit, you can app and main from the regular menu for about $10/person more. Great value either way.

            2. Table 17 in Leslieville has a table d'hote on Sundays and Mondays. $32 for three courses. Also on Sunday (and maybe Monday as well?), it's BYOB with no corkage fee.

                  1. Hammersmith's has a 3-course prix fixe dinner on Thursdays and Fridays only. $35.

                    1. Pan on Danforth Ave has been running a 3 plat prixe fix $25 dinner for a long time that is quite good and a great deal, but rarely mentioned here. Maybe that's because there's no buttermilk foam or molecular gastronomy involved. http://www.panonthedanforth.com/menu_...

                      And it's available every day.

Sounds good, nothing on their website about what selections are in the prix fixe though.

                        2. Mandalay has an unusual prix fixe that includes a choice of four appetizers, dessert and coffee for $10 plus the price of any entree on their regular menu. There are 6 mains at $14.95, and several more under $20. This restaurant at Lawrence and Markham Rd. has been one of the good ones in Scarborough for many years.

There's also a $15 coupon on their website for the regular menu until February 13.

                            - Midi Bistro - $33 for a 3 course prix fixe menu - choice of starter, main & dessert. (Though they are part of Winterlicious, it appears this runs outside of Winterlicious.)

                            1. I think they all have been covered here on CH!

                                1. Bistro Camino has a 3 course for around $25-$27 if I remember correctly. Near Main and Danforth. Excellent food.

                                        Hello estufarian!
How was 'Yours Truly'? Heard they also gave out 4 amuse bouche with the tasting menu?! '8' course for $45 sounds like a pretty good deal!! ( Assuming the food is good, that is?! )

                                        1. re: Charles Yu

There are 'at least 2' amuses - once I had 4. But literally they are a mouth (almost)ful.
I have no complaints about value overall. The meal is uneven (both in pacing and accomplishment) but there are enough highlights to bring me back.
On both visits there were substitutions (really strange, considering they post their menu daily) and, so far the desserts have been relatively weak - which is an issue as both menus have the same dessert.
Wine list is 'strange' - VERY small and changes on a whim. First time I had never had any of the selections (all available by glass) but both glasses I had were very well matched. Second time, I think only 1 wine was repeated, but I wasn't impressed with the choices (around 6 wines TOTAL on list).

Textures are strong, plating is inconsistent, flavours are sometimes muddled - but the trout (in particular) was excellent both times (and is still on the menu). The 'potato' was also fantastic (three different textures of potao) - but has now disappeared.

Right now it's a 'glass half-full' (rather than half-empty) And the peaks are very high so I recommend. Certainly at that price point.

                                      2. Le Select Bistro -- 3-course menu with 3 main course choices for $35. http://www.leselect.com/menus/view_me...

                                        1. Had a fabulous meal at Simple Bistro the other night. No Winterlicious, just their usual a la carte menu, most of the items on which can be turned into a 3-course prix-fixe menu @ $40. I hadn't been there since Chef Matt Cowan took over the reins, and was delighted to find that the food was even better than ever before. Wonderful ingredients and playful (and successful!) use of accompaniments and textures. And there's a very talented saucier in that kitchen. Desserts, including a perfect sticky toffee pudding, were also amazing. Delightful service, too.
