Quincy C-Mart Battle.

So close, yet so far. I hope they build it.

I'm for all businesses coming into Quincy. That area is a nightmare as it is. It looks like that store will have no off street parking, and let's not kid each other, there will be auto traffic. It's hard enough to get a space to go to the Wheelhouse Diner now. Can't imagine the cluster_ _ _ _ after they move in. Fasten your seatbealts. Also, there may be other issues between the city and the owner, that we're not privey to.

i just counted 90 spaces on aerial photos. it doesnt look like much though, having seen Kam Man's entire parking lot full up numerous occasions.

C-mart is such a zoo on both Herald and CombatZone locations, nearly all the time. i suspect a good bunch of it is Quincy residents, based on the # of bags i see getting off the T. my corner bodega has 90% of what i need, from Chang Sing tofu produts to Spaghetti Factory dumplings to the non-obscure vegetables. i'm not looking forward to C-mart probably putting them out of business and dealing w/ Zoo situation again

also, Hayward St is really an Alleyway. not a street. i suspect they'd have to come to some agreement with Hannaford about sharing parking and the graded truck entrance, so cars, stop-signs, and mailboxes and pedestrians dont keep getting clipped by the incessant barrage of trucks. i really avoid Quincy as much as i can despite living here..

        Now there's really no parking.

You beat me to it. I just read the article and came on to post. Can't wait to see what the future brings.

If I had unlimited money, I would have loved to by the Wolly theater and opened an old movie themed restaurant. .

theres an entire empty block north of stop & shop. ive heard it is 'polluted dirt' but from what i can tell, it is entirely concrete floor from prior warehouses curb-to-curb. theres also a building directly east of it which looks like it would be just big enough. the Phu Cuong market owners in dorchester have spent years cleaning up a polluted block so it can be done:

Its concrete curb to curb except for the trees growing out of it, which I have always thought was very WTF. How did they get there?

Well, damn. It's just that extra block further and also that much closer to Thuan Dat (sp?). A larger grocery store in the area will likely suck Thuan Dat's business dry, and I rather like the thought of a smaller, southeast Asian focused neighborhood joint.

It also makes it about 1-2 blocks farther for me to walk, and I was really hoping I could get a place to hop on over too when in dire need of an ingredient. I seldom make my pit stops in Chinatown because of getting off work too late, and having a C-Mart with a reasonable walk from the North Quincy T would be a nice option.

That particular space seems insane, though.

          Too small. Where to park?

But I guess if you have a car you'd go to Kam Man

I live across the street in the Downs. I don't know how much car traffic it will generate. Most of their clientele will walk. The Bank of America does the most traffic damage.

It's like bumper cars getting in and out of that parking lot. :D

Me too. I am glad to know this wasn't dead in the water, which I had assumed given how long the original proposal was announced.

I'm routing for them as well.

risk your life every time crossing 3A or Newport Ave as a pedestrian as is,doubt this store within walkable distance of customers would introduce much more car traffic - walked by the proposed building yesterday, it is quite huge. and there are some pricey loft condos next door. perhaps they were whining to councilors?

nonetheless if not approved, theres a Thuan Dat down the street, with Phu Cuong trucks out back, so presumably a branch of the Dorchester market, which itself is expanding, plus theres Shun Xing, SuperStop&Shop, Hannaford, 10 minute T commute to Chinatown or Field Corner, Kam Man, Milton Marketplace and markets in Dorchester like Lamberts are bikable

so not really hurting on the grocer front but why not a C-mart to the mix..
