Martinos Deli and liquors RT 1 Peabody
This new Deli and liquor store just opened on route 1 in Peabody, owned by the people from the Commons in Topsfield. The new store was nice and quite impressive . They carried liquors , Illy espresso bar and deli. The prices were very high for the location. A latte cost $4.50 and large drip coffee was 3.50, along with the deli sandwiches around $10 and slices of cake were $6.99. The beer and wine was a few dollars highier than a package store.
Has anyone been here ? Store looks promising but has been empty when passing by.
Yes the store has a fancy shiny look . The prices do make it harder to be a daily customer . In my opinion if you are going to charge $3.50 for cup of coffee it better be the best coffee but they are located on rt .1 so the location does not go with the prices. For the price of the sandwiches you can just go to any restaurant for lunch.
I heard a lot of good things and was interested in trying it out myself. I agree that the store is nicely designed. But, it is way over priced for the area and has a very limited selection of sandwiches. I ordered the Pastrami sandwich ($9.99) and my wife ordered the "Jumbo" Italian sandwich ($12.99) to share with my daughter. I must say that the pastrami was delicious but not a $10 sandwich. The "jumbo" Italian was on a twisted roll with nothing extraordinary for meats and cheeses. It was by no stretch of the imagination jumbo and a total rip off for $13. I ordered the sandwich with the works and it came with nothing, when I brought it back the "chef" (thats what the owner was calling him?) he said "that is how we make them here"....really? I wish I was more pleased with the experience because it is a good idea and well needed for the area and I like giving the little guy my business. But, I won't be back.
