February 2012 Cookbook of the Month Voting

The nomination thread has closed and we have narrowed it down to the books listed below. Now is the time to decide which book will be chosen for February. More information on how COTM works, and previous books chosen can be found at http://www.chow.com/cookbook_of_the_m... Please remember to VOTE IN ALL CAPS. Voting will close at 2 pm (eastern time) this coming Thursday (Jan. 19th) and I will post the winner that afternoon.

MIGHTY SPICE by John Gregory-Smith

SLOW COOKER MONTH, which seems to have been narrowed down to The Italian Slow Cooker by Michele Scicolone and The Indian Slow Cooker by Anupy Singla. All you need to do with this one is put SLOW COOKER MONTH, unless you feel you’d like to add or subtract something.

JAPANESE MONTH, which would include Washoku by Elizabeth Andoh and Japanese Cooking: A Simple Art by Shizuo Tsuji. Again, all I would need is JAPANESE MONTH for your vote, unless you feel you want to amend it.

SPLENDID SOUPS by James Peterson

Here is a link to the nomination thread if you’d like to read more about how we narrowed it down to these books: http://chowhound.chow.com/topics/827937

          1. SPLENDID SOUPS - may actually have time to cook next month, love this book.

                  1. MIGHTY SPICE. Thanks for making such lovely sense out that crazy nomination thread, LLM!

                                  1. SLOW COOKER MONTH

This month is a hard one. I like all the choices.

                                              1. What a nailbiter this is turning out to be! Apologies for the interruption. I'm not voting this month because I'm not sure how committed can be to cooking from "The Book" whichever it may be in February, but I am interested in the results because I MIGHT cook along, so I'm posting in this thread now so I can see on my MyChow page when new votes happen. I sure wish I hadn't given away my Japanese cookbook! ~TDQ

Coming in here on tip toes to say that this is an unusual voting thread this month. In the past there was much more discussion. Shhhhh.... tip-toeing out now...

                                                  1. re: Gio

Yes, but like children who know they've been bad, we're just hiding where we think "mom" won't see us being unruly over on the nomination thread!

                                                    1. re: mebby

Mom is fully aware of your behavior, and is very appreciative of how clear-cut this thread has been so far. Unconditional love, no matter what happens next ...

                                                2. Happy to vote for JAPANESE MONTH although they all look good.

                                                  1. LulusMom: I just want to clarify: a vote for Japanese month means *only* Washoku and Simple Art, correct?
I have another Andoh, and some other Japanese books, so I'm not ready to buy a new one until I've spent more time with my current books. The others are not in my library system.

                                                    1. re: L.Nightshade

Those were the ones with the serious number of votes, so yes. But please feel free to set up a side thread for Andoh; I'm sure others would love that.

                                                      1. re: LulusMom

I'd like to see a side thread for "Other Japanese Cookbooks," as I have quite a few, several that are more accessible to western cooks.

                                                      2. re: L.Nightshade

I have all of Andoh's books and if February is a Japanese month, time permitting, I'd cook along if you create a side thread.

                                                        1. re: BigSal

Perhaps I will set up an ancillary thread. February is starting to look a little tighter than expected, which is why I haven't voted yet. Can't be sure of my participation.

                                                        1. SLOW COOKER MONTH. A long shot at this point, oh well. I need to start using mine!

                                                            1. The winner is up at http://chowhound.chow.com/topics/829118

Thanks to everyone for a great 6 months!

                                                              1. FYI, because February is a short month, I've posted the March nomination thread today:
