Ninth Avenue 30s/40s - relaxed dinner tonight
Looking for good (doesn't need to be great) place for dinner tonight with entrees $20 or less and a liquor license. Time after the pre-theatre rush. Two people; cuisine open. It's a business/social thing.

I like Amarone on 9th Ave. at 47th St. It's a better-than-average Italian restaurant with pastas from $16 and meat-centric entries from $20. This might be a few dollars out of your range, but you get to sit in a nice dining room with linen tablecloths and enjoy professional service.

Some other alternatives, as this is my neighborhood and I am familiar with many places around here. I like to get lighter snacks/wine at Riposo 46 (predictably on 9th at 46th St.). This might be a bit romantico for a business dinner. Another mid-price alternative to Amarone above is Nizza, which serves Italo-Provencal food in a sort of stilo moderno diner setting that is relatively casual but still not bad for dinner entertaining. (Nizza is owned by the same folks who own Marseille next door.) For super casual, there is a Five Napkins Burger down the street, which has well-regarded burgers and other meat-y stuff. I don't suggest any of the Thai or other Asian restaurants in the neighborhood, though some people like Pam Real Thai.
