Santo Domingo in February
In Santo Domingo -- Adrian Tropical on the water is pretty good, Pat'e Palo on the Plza Espana is really good. A shrimp and chorizo appetizer there was sensational
We ended up going to Playa Bonita -near Las Terrenas -- for three days and had great meals. Casa Grade is a lovely restaurant/inn run by a very friendly French couple. They do great things with local ingredients. The seafood is morning-fresh, so that the ingredients in cazuelas, etc. change subtly every day. Just a hundred yards down the Atlantis is run by a former chef to Pres.Mitterand. Again, the food was fresh and delicious - very nice wine. good bread and pastries at both. There are several other options, including grills at each end of the beach where local fishermen cook up whatever they caught that morning If you want a quiet, beautuful beach with great food, Playa Bonita definitely is the place to go.
In Samana - where the whale-watching definitely is worth a side trip - we ate lunch at Bambu, which was pretty good.
