Tips for Dining, Eating, and Food Shopping in Greater Chicago

Weird parts in Chicago?

My husband is going to Chicago on a last minute trip. He loves eating things that I find really gross. What are some suggestions for places that serve things like crazy pate, or sweetbreads, or brains of some sort? He isn't into molecular gastronomy, he just like organs and the like...and good beer, really good beer.

So far he plans on going to Longman and Eagle, the Publican, and Leopold.

Thanks!

  1. Tacos are a great medium for offal. My favorite taqueria is tierra caliente, 1402 n. ashland. They have several "interesting" varieties of tacos.
It's a lunch counter in the back of a grocery store, as are so many of Chicago's best taquerias.

    1. To his already excellent list I would add the Purple Pig. No reservations so busy at peak hours.

      1. These are both great suggestions. Thanks!!! Looking at the Purple Pig, I am jealous I don't get to go!

        1. Shan Restaurant - brain masala
Ghareeb Nawaz usually has a kidney dish or two on the menu as well.
