Baco Mercat-More than a sandwich spot
While "baco" is the signature sandwich, this place is more than a sandwich spot. The restaurant is a concept by the executive chef of Lazy Ox, Josef Centeno, and like Lazy Ox the menu incorporates lots of small plates which lend themself to sharing. I have not been here for lunch, the lunch menu more promanently features the baco, a flat bread sandwich while the dinner menu has more tapas style plates with a smaller selection of sandwiches and flatbreads.
I went with 6 people and we had
the beef tongue schnitzel baco
the cordero flat bread
the toron flatbread
Mussels, Mushrooms, Beef tongue schnitzel baco, and the toron baco- all were awesome
The other dishes were good, but the eggplant dishes I've had at the lazy ox were better than what was offered here, braised artichoke was good, but nothing I HAVE TO order again, head-on shrimp I could have had at any chinese restaurant in chinatown-good but do need to order it again, and the cordero was actually pretty delicious, but was outshined by the baco sandwiches.
I would definitely comback to check the lunch vibe, but for dinner it is dark and pretty casual. A great place to get full on good food, without the pretension that comes with some LA hotshot spots
