Waterfront Seafood & Bar (Bellingham) - any good ?

Happy 2012, B-hammers !

We spent NYE/NYD down by the waterfront (Bellwether). Was looking for "child-friendly" place to eat on NYE. Determined to stay out of Fairhaven this time. Called Prospect St Cafe, Bayou on Bay and a few others downtown and every place had 30-45 mins wait time. We ended up settling for La Fiamma, not that there's anything wrong with them, we just didn't really feel like Italian pasta & pizza.

Drove by Waterfront Seafood & Bar four times and the adventurer/Chowhounder in me was dying to check it out. Visions of a sem-legit clientele, blues over the speakers, beer bottles clinking over serious chow at a dive by the train tracks just had me going. But Mrs. Lotus thought the place looked "dodgy" from the outside (with 6-yr old in tow, well maybe she was being prudent.....).

So can anyone gimme the lowdown of this place ? Menu on website looks limited but I'm still curious:

(and WTH is "broasted" chicken & jojo's ??? LOL

)

Thx.

    Not sure how long you've been in Bellingham, but this NYT story about the Waterfront sealed it's dubious claim to fame. Folks here found it quite amusing.

    I may be mistaken, but I don't believe you can go in there with a minor. It is a bar. I have a strong aversion to drunks, so I have only gotten food from the take-out window. Some folks love their fish and chips, including my daughter. Too greasy for me.

    I'm guessing if you like dive places like The Horseshoe (some folks love 'em) you might like the Waterfront Tav, too. Looking forward to hearing what other folks have to say about the food and the ambiance.

      Thx for that, Laura. Well even as frequent visitors of B'ham, nothing beats local knowledge. I guess if not being able to go in with a minor seals the fate for us, then.

      Don't know about Horseshoe. I thought WF Tavern is the same place as WFS&B ?

      You making any recent visits up here to 'Couv ?

        WF Tav is the same as WFS&B, still pretty sure it is a no-minors establishment. I'll take a peek next time I'm in Old Town. Once summer returns, try the take-out window.

        Haven't traveled north in far too long. Miss the city! We were hoping to get up there for the Gingerbread Lane display but we went out of town to visit family during the holiday and missed it. But, I was just reading the 2012 Chinese Restaurant Awards from the Vancouver Sun and checking out one of those places seems like a fine excuse to head across the border. Have you read it? We'd probably go to Spicy Vegetarian Cuisine in Richmond as our first choice, though all Chinese restaurants have plenty of veggie options.

          We went to the Gingerbread Lane for first time, ever. It was cool. Our 6-yr old had a blast, but was quite disappointed none of it was edible :-D

          2012 Chinese Restaurant Awards ....... here's to whet your palate:

          You guys don't do meat and some seafood IIRC, right ?

            Mmmmmm. My hubby is strict vegetarian, but daughter and I eat fish/seafood. When we go out it is fun for him (and us) to go to a restaurant where he can order anything on the menu with confidence and not have to play 20 questions: does it have bonito flakes, is it made with chicken stock, is there fish sauce in this, etc. Some people have no concept of what vegetarian really means.
