Carmine Has Passed

Seattle Hounds: Carmine Smeraldo, owner of Il Terrazo Carmine, passed away last evening. To me he was the epitome of a great restauranteur who knew how to create and deliver a great dining experience. I hope his legacy lives on at Il Terrazo Carmine.

    OMG. RIP, Carmine.

    I was just there and had a nice visit with him. It had been a long time since my last previous visit. OMG.

    Carmine brought great joy to innumerable people. Brought it brilliantly, consistently and with class and love. Seattle's culinary light has dimmed.

      I am reviving this thread because I am curious if anyone knows about the current/future direction of Il Terrazo. I have been dining there since the 1980's and my last visit was just a couple of weeks before Carmine's passing.

      I am wondering how the restaurant is doing, now that it is no longer under Carmine's ever-vigilant watch, and if anyone knows if it will stay in the family, change hands, or ...? Any information about the operation and/or personal accounts of recent visits will be appreciated.

        All is good at ILT. George is running the operations. Carmine's widow retains ownership and from time to time you will see Carmine's young son there. The food is still great and the service superb.

            I concur... Had lunch there just a week ago, and it was absolutely up to their usual high standard for both delicious food and excellent service.
