Wondering...

Do Chowhounds take Yelp reviews seriously? Use the Yelp app. on iphones?

No and yes. I don't bother with the reviews but, do use it for pics, addresses, phone numbers, web sites, link to open table etc...

Not very seriously, but I do read it when I get to it. (I don't intentionally look for them, but it does pop up through google search). I don't have an iPhone, so definitely no Yelp app.

Yelp is useless to me. Likewise Zagat, epinions, and every other consumer rating service. I would rather make my own initial judgment and take my chances.

I don't take any review seriously. It is the internet; make sure you are always in possession of a large grain of salt. Generally I trust Chowhound more, especially since I have come to somewhat know my local hounds. I always scan through Yelp and have used it when traveling to different cities and it has worked for me too.

Thanks for feedback on yelp reviews. My daughter insists that negative yelp posts are brought to the attention of a restaurant's staff and actually knows someone that was fired due to one. I find this unbelievable as I consider the "reviews" often laughable and on the whole unreliable though yelp is useful for other information provided.
