the cost of pistachios ranges considerably depending on quality, provenance, and whether they are sold with or without the shell. I've seen shelled Bronte pistachios from Sicily sold at €50 a kg in Rome. I think the lower end of the spectrum would be around €10-15 a kilo with shells on. Does that sound about right to anyone? Vinoroma?

re: vinoroma
I'm talking shell on. The lady at Testaccio (Irma? I can never remember her name and am now embarrassed to ask) with all the frutta secca, and Turkish connections, sells great big voluptuous California pistachios at €20. She says Bronte aren't even available and if they were, they would cost €40. The bio guy near me says that is ridiculous and sells Bronte (even more voluptuous) for €20, but doesn’t always have them. We can't remember how much we paid at Metro a few months ago and don't even know where they were from (not my fault! somebody ELSE chose them and tossed the bag before I could see), but they were about half the size of the Californias. Subsequently we received a gift from Turkey, larger and tastier than Metro's by a lot but not nearly as good as the California, much less the Bronte. €50 for shelled Bronte is credible, more or less like pinoli.
