Conca D'oro in Farmington, CT
Anyone know what's going on with this place? i was impressed with the quality of the food and service, but it was always so empty. Sign in the window says "Closed for Renovations" but that's been there for weeks now.

I finally stopped by the Galleria to pick up menus. They did a beautiful job renovating and making it more appealing to the eye. The bar is really nice. I hope they are very successful. The menu on the other hand has me baffled. Why would anyone have such an expansive menu? Unless they have ten major cooks, most everything has to be frozen to keep that much food in store. I will try a couple things this weekend, probably pizza and grinders to be safe.

It was OK but couldn't hold a candle to the original restaurant Claudia's, also in Farmington. They tried to expand the menu and it didn't work out. After the first week of the grand opening, it died down and couldn't recoup. The head chef was not easy to get along with and spoke no English.

Not that I expected much of a reply to my own post, but found out the sign now reads "Galleria Restaurant." We'll see.

We'll see what Galleria has to offer. A sign on the window says ginders, pizza & seafood. The place is somewhat hidden since the entrance is on the opposite side of the building from the main rd. (Rt.6). If you didn't know it was there already you would drive by without even noticing it.

Agreed. I just stumbled on it as I am always looking for good Italian places. When they first opened, I found the food to be VERY good. Staff was always friendly, but the place was NEVER packed. If I saw four tables taken at any one time, that was alot. Haven't been around to the front yet...wonder if the sign is a leftover from CD.

re: hotwing
Finally stopped at Galleria and glad I did. Mussels were plump and done perfectly. Sauce had just the right amount of zip. Calamari were breaded lightly (no tentacles) and not rubbery at all. Italian combo (lasagne, stuffed shell, egglplant parm) tasted like home made...and I don't say that lightly. Chicken and veg over linquine was perfect. Rolls were actually VERY good, too...I DO like to dip in the mussel sauce. Had Goose Island IPA on tap, too. Run by a couple of young Albanians who were VERY nice and personable. None of Conca D'oro's staff is there. Overall, other than location, they've got a hit. Hope it succeeds.

I can't understand why they have been open for a number of weeks and they still did not post their menu online. They have a Facebook page, but last time I checked there was still no menu. It's always nice to have an idea of what they are serving and also view the pricing ahead of time.

re: hotwing
I made it a point of driving by there one night and picking up a copy of their take-out menu. Then made a careful decision about what dishes to take out to test their quality. Glad I ordered what I did. I'm so tired of finding GOOD places I like, only to have them go under...Conca d"oro, The Clam Digger (Bristol), Silo...all gone.
