restaurants around Shutters in Santa Monica

I am looking for great restaurants near Shutters in Santa Monica. Other than steakhouses, what are the best restaurants in the area?

Catch across the street in the Casa Del Mar hotel is excellent. I've also had some excellent meals in your hotel's own restaurant, One Pico. Also would suggest Whist in the Viceroy hotel which is nearby.

Capo is a great choice, albeit expensive. Its right next door. Chinois on Main is a classic. Order the whole catfish. If you like clams an a more crusty atmosphere, the Galley is a lot of fun.

Next door is Catch, always great. Chinois, Chaya Venice, Gjelina, Tasting Kitchen, Wolf in Sheeps Clothing - all on Main Street and Abbot Kinney are all outstanding. No reason to drive more than 5 minutes for a fantastic meal (or in the case of Catch, walk 2 miinutes).

I still like Wolfgang Puck's Asian fusion Chinois on Main. Still good after all these years. Just a few blocks away from you and is a part of this years Dine LA.

Also I really like Gjelina about a mile away in Venice (get reservations now). Wonderful small plates.

Chinois is a good choice. Also, across the street - in the Casa Del Mar hotel is Catch. For breakfast or lunch - Cora's - right next to Capo. Walking up the street the restaurant Cezanne in the Le Merigot hotel. A little more of a walk - a miles - is Fig in the Fairmont hotel. A minute past that gets you to Michael's - which is a culinary instituion in L.A. (been there forever, many chefs got their start. Still has very good food.) A mile in the other direction gets you to Chaya Brasserie - also very good.

I really like Fig. Great farm to table California cuisine.
Stella Rossa Pizza is just around the block on Main Street. Really good.

n.b. stella rossa is not open for lunch, dinner only.
also, this is a very popular place (because their food is GOOD) so don't expect be able to stroll in there at 7:30pm on a saturday night and get seated without a long wait.

(usually i try to time my arrival there to roughly coincide with their opening time.)

The Wilshire - I had a great meal there recently.
Rustic Canyon - I don't love this place, but a lot of others do.
Josie Next Door is delicious - casual alternative to the more formal Josie
For casual lunch spot - Cha Cha Chicken (get the coconut fried chicken)
If you have a car, the Farm Shop in Brentwood serves great Ad Hoc style dinners.

When you say near do you mean walkable or just an easy drive? For instance Melisse is one of the best restaurant in L.A. and we like Josie quite a lot too (both less than 2 miles from Shutters).

The first restaurant which comes to mind is Capo. It may be the best restaurant near Shutters. Food is excellent, room is pretty , service also excellent. It is a very very expensive restaurant. http://www.caporestaurant.com/
