Where to host a party for 70-90 ppl in North Jersey on a budget

I'm trying to plan my parents 25th Anniversary surprise party. For someone my age (23) I have a great paying job(55k) but obviouslly don't have the money to go bananas on a party on which I would except at least 75 people to attend.

I am just starting my searches as their 25th is in October, although I would like to have the event in September.

Does anyone have any suggestions on a place/way in the Essex/Union/Morris/Passaic County Area to accomplish this fairly inexpensively? I would like a place where the guests could dance.

How much do places typically cost? I want to be a little classier than a VFW hall.
How much should I expect the food to cost? Do places allow outside caterers?

Which places and/or caterers do you recommend?

What should I budget for alcohol and a DJ?

Are there any other aspects to party planning I am missing?

Thank you all in advance!

  1. A caterer at a VFW hall is not always less expensive. You'll have to rent all the dishes, table clothes, bring in the liquor, rent wine glasses...it adds up. A brunch at a restaurant would keep your costs lower. If the guests have to buy their own drinks that will save you some money. I wonder if Hamilton and Ward in Paterson might do the trick, or the Brownstone.

    1. If you're willing to try Hudson County, Bayonne has some less expensive but nice places. The Chandelier wasn't expensive for a buffet, and the room is very nice.
