Remi Martin Louis XIII Cognac

One of my boyfriends bucket list items has always been to enjoy a glass/shot of Louis XIII Cognac. We will be in San Francisco for his birthday weekend (Jan.18th) and I'd like to surprise him with this as a birthday gift.

Can you tell me where they carry and serve Louis XIII and maybe how to make it a really memorable experience for him? I am not a cognac drinker so don't want to miss what should be an ultimate experience.

This specific cognac figures prominently in an episode of the Larry Sanders Show, season 2 - "Larry's Birthday" which is available on Netflix streaming. I know this isn't exactly on topic, but I thought you might enjoy it.

You could go to Vancouver, Dougie'Dog.

“When you come up with a $100 hot dog, you’ve got to have a good idea,” said DougieDog owner Dougie Luv of the Dragon Dog. The foot-long bratwurst is infused with 100-year-old Louis XIII cognac – which has a $2,000 price tag of its own – and must be ordered 12 hours in advance so fresh ingredients can be prepped.

It's not uncommon for the patron who buys the last pour to get the Baccarat decanter.

I've heard from bar managers that they can return the empty decanter to their distributor (I think Young's Market has the Remy Martin account IIRC) and get a refill of Louis XIII for less than the usual cost of a brand new bottle. This was more than a few years ago, so that practice may not be in effect anymore.

As for the bucket list, I can attest that everytime I've consumed it, I've never felt it was worth even half the cost. Even when I've had bottles obtained from duty free stores in the sub-$1K range years ago, I still felt the value wasn't there.

I understand the "bucket list" aspect, but I've got to say....
Through a lucky happenstance, I ended up with a bottle of Louis XIII a few years ago, and over the course of a weekend, shared most of it with my wife and mother. While it was very, very good, there is now way it's worth $200/glass. And this from some one happy to pay well over $100/bottle for wines.

I agree. Some years ago I went to one of these dinners.

$190 for a nine-course dinner including a shot of Louis XIII is much more reasonable than paying $200 just for a glass.

$190 include the trip to Hawaii?

I was going there anyway. Had no idea they were doing this dinner ahead of time.

I suspect you will be able to find it at places that cater to the expense account.

Michael Mina has it for $250
Bourbon Steak lists it for $160

I saw it some time ago on the dessert menu at Absinthe. According to the website, it's still there at $180/glass. Verifying availability by phone would probably be a good idea, though.

                BevMo carries it.

Something tells me the OP isn't interested in dropping two grand on a bottle. http://www.bevmo.com/Shop/ProductDeta...

BevMo has the 50ml as well, though at $180 a shot Absinthe is a better deal, and they'll have the right glassware etc.
